To begin this session, please read this passage from Philippians 2:5-11:

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

CHRIST IS ETERNAL

Christ existed before everything.   John 1:1 says of Jesus, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Christ has always existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit as God.

Christ is the creator of all humanity. In John 1:3 we read that Jesus, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, together created mankind.

Christ is the Savior of the world. John 3:17 says “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

CHRIST BECAME INCARNATE

Christ became man and lived as a man.  Philippians 2:7 says, “but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being found in human likeness.”

Christ revealed the Father.   John 1:18 says, “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made Him known.”

CHRIST WAS SURRENDERED

He died on the cross.  Philippians 2:8 says of Jesus, “And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” He took our place, and died on the cross to save us.

He was separated from the Father when punished for our sins.  This is a mystery! When he bore all our sins on the cross, the Bible states in Mark 15:34 that Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

However, by his death, Jesus opened to us the way to get to God!

CHRIST IS EXALTED

Philippians 2:9

He arose!  Acts 2:32 (NIV) says, “God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.” God raised Jesus from the dead, as proof his sacrifice was fully accepted.

He is the only way to God.  1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

He is the giver of Life.  Jesus said in John 14:19 “Because I live, you also will live.”

CHRIST THE COMING KING

Philippians 2:9-11 says:  “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus came first as a weak baby. He was despised and rejected.  When He comes again, He will come with great power and glory!
